Youth Month

All Sundays of February

During the month of February, we will be highlighting the youth of our parish in many different ways:
* The first Sunday, 2/7, is Scout Sunday as well as the St. Valentine's Day Waffle Brunch.
* The second, 2/14, is Youth Sunday, as well as Forgiveness Sunday and the annual traditional Blini Luncheon. 
* The last two Sunday of the month, 2/21 and 2/22, all of our parish youth will be taking part in the JOY Oratorical and Arts Festival (materials will be sent out in separate mailing to each JOY family)

Lenten Slavonic Vespers

Дорогие братья и сестры во Христе! Слава Иисусу Христу!

Одна из важнейших задач нашего прихода - это попечение обо всех духовных нуждах всех наших прихожан.  Поэтому, во время Великого Поста, в нашем Свято-Иоанновском  храме снова будет проводиться вечерня на церковнославянском языке.  Это богослужение состоится в субботу, 13-го Март в 18.00 ч.  Тех, кто желают петь в хоре по-церковнославянски во время этого богослужения, просим быть в церкви не позже 18:00 ч. чтобы ознакомиться с песнопениями и чтениями.   

После вечерни будет совершена общая исповедь и каждому будет предоставлена возможность личной исповеди у священника, который владеет русским языком. Все кому русский язык родной приглашаются провести этот вечер в богослужебной молитве в нашем храме и духовно подготовить себя к великопостной исповеди.

The Passion Cantata for Haitian Earthquake Relief

In an effort help the orphaned, the sick, the suffering and the homeless of Haiti, the Cathedral of the Holy Virgin Protection, 59 East Second St., New York, NY, will host a benefit concert on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at 7:30 p.m.

All proceeds from the concert will be sent to International Orthodox Christian Charities [IOCC], the Baltimore-based pan-Orthodox humanitarian agency.

Vespers with special petitions for the Haitian people and the relief workers will precede the concert.

The concert will feature the world premier of a new Passion Cantata, incorporating hymns of the Crucifixion from Great and Holy Friday. The cantata, based on ancient Russian and Georgian chant and sung a cappella in English, is the work of Robert Sirico, who composed it specifically for the occasion.

A select chamber choir, formed for the occasion, will perform under the direction of musician Nicholas Reeves.

A $20.00 donation -- all of which will be sent to IOCC -- is suggested.
